Template:Infobox book/Series Princess in the Spotlight also known as Take Two, is the sequel of the 2000 novel, The Princess Diaries. It was first published in June 26, 2001 by HarperCollins.

For my grandparents, Bruce and Patsy Mounsey, who are nothing like any of the grandparents in this book.

"Just when Mia thought she had the whole Princess thing under control.

Things get out of hand, fast:

Since Mia's the brand-new crown princess of Genovia, indomitable dowager princess Grandmère arranges a national primetime interview for her. With just a few innocent remarks, Mia manages to enrage her best friend Lilly, practically get one of her teachers fired, and alienate the entire country of Genovia. (Population 30,000, but still!)

There's the havoc of the interview's aftermath and her dreaded princess lessons at the Plaza. Plus an unexpected announcement from her mother, and intriguing, exasperating letters from a secret admirer. Mia is swept up in a whirlwind of royal intrigue the likes of which hasn't been seen since volume I of The Princess Diaries.

What's an heir to the royal throne to do? But what's a girl to do when her name is PRINCESS AMELIA MIGNONETTE GRIMALDI THERMOPOLIS RENALDO?"[1]

The day after the "Cultural Diversity Dance", Mia's artist mother Helen reveals that she is pregnant with Mr Gianini's baby. Mia initially finds it very embarrassing and feels that she must keep the secret from her father and disliked grandmother, even after Helen and Mr Gianini announce their engagement.

She also has to deal with her new found attraction to her best friend Lilly's brother, handsome and intelligent senior Michael Moscovitz, and after she receives an anonymous love letter when ill and away from school, she hopes that it is him sending them.

Then Mia's grandmother, Clarisse, drops a bombshell on her by making her attend an interview with journalist Beverly Bellerieve to bring more tourism to Genovia, a theme which is repeated in almost every book. Mia accidentally reveals to everybody watching that Helen is going to have as baby, shocking her dad and Clarisse, who immediately plans a wedding at the City Hall for Helen and Mr Gianini.

Meanwhile, she receives a few more love letters and then receives one which makes her certain that Michael is indeed the anonymous letter-writer. On the day of the planned wedding, Mia is given a letter from Helen that explains that they eloped together to Mexico to avoid their big planned wedding. She proceeds to go to the Rocky Horror Picture Show with her friends, where she finds that her Biology partner and friend, Kenny Showalter, was the one who was writing the letters. Not wanting to hurt his feelings, Mia agrees to a date with Kenny, noting that "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger."
